That last one hour before you know it’s appropriate to step outside the office and make a dash for freedom is probably the most difficult to get through on a weekday and more so on a Friday. All I could think of while looking at my blank laptop screen was how to make my hair for the date I had that night. I usually take decent care of my hair, oil them once in a while, shampoo and condition every two days. However since the last month they seemed lackluster and dull. Owing to the importance of this grave situation I turned to my French colleague and poured out my tale of woe. Bless her soul, she listened to me with the utmost attention and just as I finished speaking, within a jiffy she took a piece of paper and wrote the address to a store and told me to buy Apple Cider Vinegar, as if it was the most obvious thing to do. With a perplexed look I asked here whether it was a French thing because to be honest I had never really heard about Apple Cider Vinegar in general, forget its benefits. On further enquiry, I was introduced to this splendid almost magical multipurpose new liquid. Lets just say it’s my new obsession and go to remedy.
Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) is a type of vinegar made by the fermentation of apple cider. During the fermentation process, sugar in the apple cider is broken down by bacteria and yeast into alcohol and then into vinegar. Like other types of vinegar, ACV contains acetic acid and it also contains some lactic, citric and malic acids. I have discovered so many useful ways to incorporate ACV into a daily routine. It can be used as a rinse for your hair after shampooing, and will aid in increased bounce and shine. (P.S. This worked wonderfully for my date) Its best to take ½ a tablespoon of ACV and a cup of cold water and rinse your hair with it after shampooing. Apple Cider Vinegar helps regulate the pH of your skin. You can dilute it with two parts water, and use cotton to spread it as a toner across your face. Another added beauty benefit is that it helps lighten age spots. Before I ramble on about my new favourite product, a word of caution to everyone: ACV can be very potent when it comes to taste and is often better when taken as a mixture with juice or honey. But once you get used to it, it’s just a part of your daily routine. Not only does it help in soothing and massaging the hands and feet after a long day of work, it also helps remove sunburns and whiten those stained teeth. This is basically done by rubbing ACV directly on the teeth or sunburnt area and rinsing with water eventually. A couple of researches have actually shown that it might also help alleviate allergies, especially with regard to sinus.
One of the most cited benefits of this magical potion is weight loss. I know you are looking at the screen with a skeptical look, raising one eyebrow and thinking to yourself “sure, every second person on the Internet seems to claim a miraculous way to lose weight”. So let me be outright blunt about it, ACV doesn’t guarantee it but let’s say there has been enough evidence to want to give it a try. The best way to do is mix two teaspoons of ACV in you’re your 500 ml bottle and sip it through out the day. What it basically does is break down fat so that the body can use them instead of storing them. Additionally if a bacterial infection is the cause f your diarrhea or intestinal spasms, apple cider vinegar could help because of its antibiotic properties. A quirky benefit that I just want to throw out there is that it also has been shown to be quite useful to stop those damn hiccups. It’s also rich in ash, which gives ACV its alkaline property, and helps maintain proper pH levels for a healthy alkaline state. (Particularly useful if you drink a lot of coffee or wine). It works wonders if detox is your goal for the summer and also helps regulate cholesterol and blood pressure. Another wonderful use of ACV is that it helps repel fleas on your pets. The best way to do this is to make a concoction of one part vinegar and one part water and rinse your pet with it. One thing that ACV that has been immensely helpful with its magical cleaning properties. Mix 1/2 cup of apple cider vinegar with 1 cup water and voila! All your utensils, kitchen and bathroom floor, microwave, windows, glasses will be sparkling in no time. Any health freak or newbie out there must give Apple Cider Vinegar a try.
