world hemophilia day

Hemophilia is a very rare disease that prevents a proper blood clotting. As it is a rare disorder of blood, people know little about it and behave irresponsibly in treatment. To get hemophilia meaning right, world hemophilia day is observed 17 april every year

Hemophilia disease:

When you get injured or cut mistakenly, your blood stops after some time. How it does happen ? Normally, people have sticky cells in their blood that is called platelets. This plays an important role in blood clotting. When platelets find any cut, they release chemicals to attract more platelets as well as activate the proteins. These proteins are known as clotting factors. Now these proteins get mixed with platelets and form fibers. These formed fibers stop bleeding by making the clot stronger. This process is quite normal process but when it does not happens as the way it is Hemophilia disease

Reasons of Hemophilia Disease:

You may know of a coagulation cascade that usually helps to stop bleeding that is gathering the blood platelets together. In this hemophilia day get well informed about the rare disease and make the world aware of the Hemophilia causes. When the immune system attacks a person’s clotting factors in your blood. This happens in some certain phase:

  • Cancer
  • Pregnancy
  • Autoimmune conditions
  • Multiple sclerosis

But it is also an inherited condition that passes down member to member in the family.

Types of hemophilia:

Certain proteins produce blood to prevent blood from flowing due to injury or cut that are called clotting factors. Our body has 12 clotting factors. All these work together in blood clotting. Mainly there are two types of hemophilia that are due to lack of factor 8 and factor 9.  A factor 8 deficiency is responsible for Hemophilia A. and factor 9 deficiency causes hemophilia B.

Hemophilia symptoms:

Hemophilia symptoms depend on the level of clotting factors. If the clotting factor level is mild, you may face bleeding only after any trauma or surgery. But if your deficiency is severe, you may experience bleeding more often. Hemophilia causes many unexplained bleeding and other symptoms.

  • Nose Bleeding without any known cause
  • Unexplained bleeding after vaccinations
  • Unexplained irritability in children

Vishwa haemophilia divas, every year spreads awareness about the rights of people with haemophilia. Though it is not a cured disease, there are some things you can do after seeing these symptoms.

  • Test your blood
  • Measure the clotting factors
  • For mild hemophilia clotting factors: 5 to 40 %
  • Moderate hemophilia clotting factors: 1 to 5%
