Independence day is around the corner. Everyone is filled with patriotism, pride, and a sense of freedom and preparing to celebrate Independence day in their own ways. Discussion on rights are at the peak. One of the topics of such fierce debate is right to health. Many support it but others are taking health as a human right and support their argument of no need to make a separate corner in the constitution. 

Freedom gives us wings to self confidence, the ability to pursue our dreams, walk around the world, wearing any opinion, and whatnot. Now, It is up to us how we treat our health. 

In the absence of knowledge of true freedom, people end up abusing their health by eating rubbish, working in stressful workplaces, practising inhygiene, breathing in pollution, lack of sleep, malnutritions, obesity, unhealthy habits, and whatnot. 

Let’s discuss it further, understand the wide meaning of the right to health and get freedom from abusing your health and unhealthy lifestyle this Independence day.

Right to health has a broad sense of freedom that has different important segments to cover for a better life. 

  • Freedom from Diseases: As humans evolved, new diseases have come into existence. Fortunately, the human race has developed the potential of medical science to fight them back but availability of  the boon of medical science is limited to certain groups of people. A true meaning of independence would be termed right if a common man gets freedom from diseases with easy availability of these facilities. To enjoy every moment of independence is only possible if the person has freedom from infection. 
  • Healthy foods for everyone: Today the world is facing a paradox where you can find people dying with hunger and obesity at the same time. Some people have enough food and others have not to survive. To avoid such extreme opposites, eating right is the answer. It is time, governments need to ensure people are eating the right foods or not. Only government interference can make it sure that obese people stop eating unhealthy and poor people start to eat healthy. Eat healthy, eat right and identify the true meaning of freedom. 
  • Nutrients for everyone:  It is an ongoing debate that the right to food is more important than the right to nutrition or vice versa. People argue that it has been more than 70 years of our freedom. Now is a better time to think about the right to nutrition for every person. Others negate the argument by saying that we are living in such a time when people are not getting enough food on a daily basis.   • Transparency of nutrients in products: Adulteration in food products has been the cause of many demise for many years of independence.  Till now, may companies trick customers by not showing the nutrients and their sources in their pack. That can compromise our health. So, we need to understand the value of transparency of nutrients to ensure the freedom from adulteration or contamination. India should be free from adulterated products to realize the true power of independence. 
  • Free health checkup: A healthy citizen of a nation represents the health of the nation. There are some common health conditions which are taking place these days are diabetes, blood pressure, heart diseases, and many more that can be easily prevented just by checking up on time and taking actions immediately. Free check ups are already in India but it is very much needed to bring government and private sectors together to boost the campaign of healthy India. 
  • Breakfree for unhealthy habits: Unhealthy habits are the best example of abusing health and contaminates the meaning of freedom. Habits like smoking, drinking, and others are not only impacting your life but also dangerous for your loved ones. Avoid it for them if not for you because they have the right to live. 
  • Pollution free environment: What if it is said to you that you are free but can’t breathe. How do you feel ? Tricked right ! Something like that happens when you are talking about the right to health and underestimate the pollution free environment. With the contaminated air, you have several diseases to ruin yourself. Freedom from pollution is not just a right, it is a necessity to live. Let’s pledge a pollution free earth on this independence day. 
  • Right to work life balance: A work life balance is a necessity in these times when undesired stress is trying to swallow us as whole. Stress free life should not only be desired but also right to have. We can perform better and live life at its fullest when we are ensured with a tension free life. In India, many companies are following the norms but there are a number of companies which have yet to accept the column of freedom from stress. 
  • Sound Sleep for everyone: Many freedom fighters used to be punished by not sleeping in the jail before independence. Are we living at that time ? I guess No. So, why should there be any sleeping constraints for anyone? We know how sleeping plays an important role in our overall health and wellness. Yet, some people value work over it and expect others to do so. Everybody needs a sound sleep not because it is desirable but it is a right.  
  • Open gym  in parks: Open gym can solve the problems of those who have no accessibility to go to the gym but want to stay fit.  Yes , the government has opened it in various cities but in small cities, an open gym in the park is yet to be set up. One side government dreams to get 30 + gold medals in olympic and other side not much efforts have been taken to aware children for improving their physical health. Now it is time for the government and public to be serious  about promoting a healthy environment for children and elders. 

Tricolor on your plate (Healthy Recipes)

How to increase the warmth of celebration ?. You must be wondering about it. Here are some independence day food ideas that you can try at home.  Each independence day special food consists of tricolor which gives a sense of happiness. 

  • Tricolor  Juicy Punch: One of the healthiest independence day dishes is here.  A great combination of vitamins and minerals, our tricolor juicy punch consists of the goodness of Banana,  orange and kiwi. With the excellent sources of antioxidants, it helps in boosting the immunity. Milk increases the protein content in the juice. Banana is a good source of potassium which helps in controlling blood pressure. 

INGREDIENTS: 

  1. For Orange Juice: 
  • Two Oranges 
  • stevia or sugar 
  1. For White Juice: 
  • One Banana, 
  • one cup milk,
  • stevia or sugar
  1. For Green Juice:
  • One Kiwi 
  • A small cup of Water 
  • Stevia or Sugar as per taste

Recipe Direction: 

  1. Squeeze oranges and add sugar or stevia in it. Strain it and place on a plate. 
  2. Grind the banana in a grinder, add the milk and start the grinder to  blend. Strain and place it on that plate. (for improving taste and nutritions, you can add peanut butter unsweetened in it)
  3. Wash the grinder and puree the kiwi with stevia or sugar in the water. Strain it and place it on the same plate.
  4. Finally, a tricolor juicy punch on your plate is ready to serve. 
  • Tricolor  Dhokla Love: Best independence day recipe to add taste in your life is here. You just need to add salt and ginger into the batter first, then divide it in three equal portions for making three colors. For saffron-like color add a mixture of turmeric and red chili powder. For white color-like, use only the basic batter. For a green like color, use the paste of spinach-green chili. For this independence day food, you need: 

Ingredients :

  1. For White Color- like Batter: 
  • medium- grain rice: 3 cups ,
  •  Curd: 1 cup, 
  • chana dal – chickpea lentils: 1½ cups , 
  • grated ginger: 2 tbsp,
  • ginger paste , 
  •  Salt: 1 tbsp
  1. For Green  Color-like Batter:
  • Spinach: ½ cup chopped ,
  •  green chili: 1
  1. For Saffron Color-like Batter:
  • turmeric powder: 1 tsp 
  • red chili powder: 1 tbsp

Recipe Directions: 

  1. Take rice and lentils in a bowl. Soak them in water for at least 8 hours. It is better to start preparing at night 
  2. Drain the water, after 8 hours
  3. Grind the mixture. Use little water to lubricate the mixture while grinding
  4. Add hot water and sour curd now 
  5. Put the mixture, again in a hot place to ferment
  6. Batter for dhokla is ready after 6 hours max
  7. Use this process for making all three batter the only difference is mentioned above
  8. Now take one bowl  
  9. Grease it with some oil. 
  10. Add 2 tbsp green batter and put it into a streamer
  11. Let it stream for 2-3 minutes
  12. Take out bowls, add 2 tbsp white batter layer, 
  13. Steam it again for 2-3 minutes. 
  14. At last add 2 tbsp of the third saffron color layer 
  15. Steam it for 5 minutes. 
  16. Tri-color dhokla is ready on your plate to serve
  17. Now add tadka at top 
  18. Add mustard seeds and sesame seeds for increasing taste. 
  • Tricolor  Pulao  Wonder: Wait. Tricolour dishes for independence day are not over yet. Here is the mouth watering pulao wonder. 

Ingredients : 

  1. For saffron color-like: Carrot
  • basmati rice: 1 cup cooked
  • Carrot: 1 grated
  • Ghee: 1 tsp
  • Cashews: 10 whole or cut
  • onion : ¼ (finely chopped)
  • green chilli: 2  (slit lengthwise)
  • mustard seeds: ½ tsp 
  • jeera or cumin seeds: ½ tsp
  • few curry leaves
  • turmeric powder: ¼ tsp
  • Salt as per taste
  1. For White-like color : Ghee-Rice
  • Ghee: 1 tbsp
  •  basmati rice : 1 cup cooked
  •  cinnamon stick: 1 inch
  • black pepper: 15 whole
  • Cashews: 15  (whole or cut)
  • Onion: ¼  (thinly sliced)
  • jeera / cumin seeds: ¾ tsp 
  • tej patta: 1
  • cardamom or elaichi: 2 
  •  Cloves: 2 
  •  star anise: 1
  • garlic cloves: 2 (finely chopped)
  •  ginger : ½ inch (finely chopped)
  • salt as per taste
  1. For Green-like color : Palak
  • basmati rice: 1 cup (cooked)
  • Ghee: 1 tsp
  • palak leaves / spinach : 1 cup (finely chopped)
  •  Peas: ¼ cup (fresh / frozen)
  • Onion: ¼  (thinly sliced)
  •  green chilli: 2 (slit lengthwise)
  • salt as per taste

Recipe For saffron: Carrot rice

  • Take wide pan
  • Pour a tsp of ghee
  • Add  jeera , mustard seeds,and curry leaves 
  • Now add cashews
  • Let them turn into golden brown
  • Add chopped onions and green chilli. 
  • Add grated carrot and fry for a minute 
  • Carrots are cooked, add turmeric powder and salt to taste. 
  • Add cooked rice at the same time
  • Mix well without breaking rice grains
  • Cook for a minute.
  • Finally, the Saffron part of the tricolor is ready. 

Recipe  For White: Simple Ghee rice

  • Take wide pan
  • Pour a tsp of ghee
  • Add spices like  cloves, cardamom,star anise,  bay leaf, cinnamon stick and black pepper. 
  • Add cashews and let them turn golden brown
  • Add sliced ginger, onions, and garlic
  • Finally, add cooked rice and salt to taste.

Recipe  For green: Palak or Spinach rice

  • Take wide pan
  • Pour a tsp of ghee
  • Chopped onions and green chilli
  • Add finely chopped palak leaves 
  • Add peas after palak is cooked.
  • Finally, add cooked rice and salt to taste.
  • Mix them well and leave them to cook for a minute.

Put them together in a plate and your tricolor pulao wonder is ready to serve with a smacking taste.
