Lemon Tea Recipe
Ingredients
Hot Honey Lemon Tea
- 1 tablespoon of lemon juice
- 2 tablespoons of honey
- 1 cup of hot water
- 1 black tea bag
- Slice of lemon for garnish (optional)
Iced Lemon Tea
- 4 cups of hot water
- 200 grams of sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda
- 10 black tea bags
- 1⁄2 to 3⁄4 cup of lemon juice
- 4 cups of ice
- Slices of lemon for garnish (optional)
Method
Step 1: Bring 1 cup of water to a boil in a mug. Microwave the water in a heatproof mug for 30-60 seconds, or use a kettle on the stovetop and pour the heated water into a mug. Handle hot liquids with caution-if necessary, use a dish towel or oven mitt to protect your hands.
Step 2: In the hot water, steep a black tea bag for three to four minutes. Remove the bag from the mug once the tea has brewed. You can completely omit this step if you don’t care for the flavour of black tea or don’t want its caffeine.
Step 3: In a small bowl, combine the honey and lemon juice. Use 2 tbsp honey and 1 tbsp lemon juice. If using a fresh lemon, 1/2 of one will yield 1 tablespoon of liquid. If you don’t have fresh lemons, use bottled lemon juice to have the same effect. Stir the mixture until there is no longer any honey at the bottom of the mug.
Step 4: For an extra garnish, place a fresh slice of lemon in the mug. Cut a wedge or slice of lemon with a clean cutting board or knife. To add a little additional lemon to your tea, squeeze it into the mug or simply drop it into the beverage.
Step 5: Enjoy your hot honey lemon tea, but don’t burn yourself!
If you prefer your tea to be sweeter, feel free to add more honey or sugar.
Iced Lemon Tea
Step 1: Bring 4 cups of water to a boil and pour into a heat proof pitcher. If you use the microwave, it will take about 2-3 minutes, but make sure it’s hot enough to steep the tea in before placing it in the pitcher.
Step 2: In a small bowl, mix the sugar and baking soda in hot water. 1 cup (200 gram) sugar and 1/4 teaspoon baking soda are required. Stir the mixture with a long-handled spoon until no more sugar grains are visible at the bottom of the pitcher.
Step 3: In the pitcher, steep 10 black tea bags for 10 minutes.
Step 4: Remove the tea bags from the pitcher and squeeze them out. After 10 minutes, carefully spoon the bags out of the pitcher using a spoon.
Step 5: Pour 6 lemons into a pitcher and whisk in the tea. If you don’t have fresh lemons, use 1/2 to 3/4 cup lemon juice instead.
Step 6: Refrigerate the tea with 4 cups of ice until it is chilled. The ice helps to swiftly cool the tea, and it will also double your recipe once melted. Try replacing half of the ice with frozen berries instead.
