While it is true that we want to put the COVID-19 pandemic behind us and get back to normal, it is important to remember that it has taught us some really good habits which are worth keeping. Our lifestyle during the pandemic changed drastically and we had to make conscious changes in our daily lives, from wearing masks and using sanitisers to maintaining a social distance. As we look forward to the end of this, we cannot afford to forget what we have been through during the pandemic. As we celebrate World Health Day, here are a few healthy choices you can continue to make post pandemic.
Healthy Habits During Pandemic
This World Health Day, we want to remind you that pandemic or no pandemic, listed below are some of the habits you should continue:
1. Self care
Owing to the lifestyle changes we all went through during the pandemic, we found a little more time for ourselves. Practising self care is not only good for our physical health but it is also essential for our mental well-being. You must meditate regularly, listen to soothing music, do more of the things you love, remember to take breaks, unwind, and reflect. Our busy lifestyles often make us overlook the importance of this personal space and time which can have positive effects on the overall health.
2. Keeping Your Hands Clean
Washing our hands frequently is an important hygiene practice. It remains a great way to reduce the spread of germs. If you happen to be at a place where you don’t have access to water, make sure you still continue carrying a hand sanitiser with you at all times. This can significantly reduce the risk of infections and help you stay healthy.
3. Wear a Mask
It is true that we did not particularly enjoy wearing a mask at all times, including indoors but you may consider carrying it outdoors even after the pandemic. One reason is that you will have to put your safety first and abide by the COVID-19 guidelines at some places that still require you to put masks on and the other reason is increasing pollution.
4. Avoid Too Much of Junk Food
Home-cooked food is the best and is always a healthy choice. The pandemic forced us to stay at home and cook our own meals but you can try cooking at home whenever possible. It is more nutritious, healthy, and safe. Eating out or ordering food from outside is not only expensive but also a not-so-healthy choice
5. Prioritize Family Time
While ‘me’ time is necessary, the pandemic also managed to teach us the importance of family time. Let us continue to bond with our family through some activities, sports, and more. It plays a significant role in ensuring mental wellness and uplifts your mood.
6. Take Up a Hobby
Mental health matters. The best way to declutter is by creating and staying engaged with something you enjoy. It is naturally a soothing way that gives you a feeling of accomplishment. Get inspired, learn something new such as gardening, knitting and painting, and stay occupied with anything that makes you feel better.
7. Exercise
Now, this is a habit we cannot talk enough about when it comes to maintaining good health. During the pandemic, most of us started exercising regularly at home. Do not discard this habit! Whether you are comfortable being back at public gyms or not, try not to skip workout sessions. Keep moving!
Conclusion
Yes, the pandemic has left a bitter taste in our mouth and we want to forget everything about it. However, it was a lesson in so many ways. We cannot claim that we have won the battle against coronavirus yet, research is still on and there has been an emergence of new variants every now and then. We should not compromise our health. And, our unwavering adherence to disease-control measures, masking, vaccination, and several other daily habits will ensure a healthier future. This is a reminder to you on World Health Day that we all need to do our part for the greater good and protect ourselves as well as our community.
