Stress is one of the most common problems that we have to face at some point in our lives. Stress can accompany the exciting events and can work as a motivator to hard work. Stress can be good for us but it shouldn’t be at overwhelming levels. There are various factors that bring stress like external pressures like family or work responsibilities, internal influences like what we put in our body, how our digestive, nervous, and immune systems are functioning.

Maintaining healthy habits can be a bit more challenging than trying a stress relief method but the benefits you will receive from maintaining a healthy lifestyle is worth the effort it takes to maintain it. Healthy lifestyle will increase your overall health and wellness and will automatically reduce your stress level.

Healthy and balanced diet can help your body to manage the psychological changes caused due to stress. Foods that reduce stress or food for anxiety relief are brazil nuts, yogurt, dark chocolate and all those whole, natural foods. Try to have minimum five portions of non starchy vegetables in a day. Start your day with balanced breakfast and try to avoid sugary cereals, and too much caffeine. Also, consume stress relief fruits like orange, grapefruit or any other citrus fruits. 

Stress can also increase your cortisol levels, to manage it eat foods that reduce cortisol like dark chocolate, peas and bananas, probiotics in food such as yogurt etc, and drink plenty of water to prevent dehydration or chamomile tea to relieve stress levels. 

When you are chronically stressed, the demand for protein increases in the body, so include protein rich foods in your diet such as eggs, chicken, lentils, nuts, beans, etc. Do not skip meals and have healthy snacks, perfect anti-stress food, it will maintain your energy levels and mood. Try to completely cut off the refined foods, packaged processed foods and sugary foods from your diet. When you are in a stressed state try not to reach for food as it can cause digestive issues. 

Regular Physical Activities

Regular workout is one of the best ways of reducing stress. Following a regular routine of exercise reduces stress and is a perfect way to keep your health in check. If you are not a workout person then make sure you do some physical activity or stress relieving exercises in a day like walking, cycling , playing badminton, tennis or any other outdoor sport. Any kind of physical activity will help in regulating your hormones and prevent the negative effects of stress that can affect your body. So, try to do 30 minutes of physical activity per day. 

Quality Sleep

People often neglect the importance of quality sleep. However, lack of good sleep can have many negative consequences. Getting enough sleep can actually reduce stress levels. Make a habit of sleeping at the same time everyday, this will not only keep your stress levels maintained but improve your hormone levels also. For a good quality sleep try to maintain healthy night time habits, try a few mind relaxing techniques, deep breathing, etc. 

Other Lifestyle Changes To Reduce Stress Levels 

  • Keep a distance from the people that give you stress. 
  • Avoid discussing the topics that get you upset. Remove yourself from that conversation or change the topic when it arises. 
  • Manage your time properly and plan ahead to avoid any kind of last minute stress. 
  • Start a stress and gratitude journal. Keeping a journal will help you to reflect on so many things. And you can also take stress therapy.
