Classified as a mood disorder, depression is a mental condition wherein one’s daily functioning is interfered with by intense feelings of sadness, anger, or loss. Whereas anxiety is a condition characterized by constant feelings of fear and inadequacy. The flavanols present in chocolate are high in antioxidants which help in regulating brain function.  A research conducted among a group of people diagnosed with mental disorders such as depression and anxiety concluded that the regular supplementation of dark chocolate caused a significant decrease in the body’s release of stress hormones such as cortisol and catecholamines within a period of two weeks.

Yogurt is one of the best foods for fighting depression and anxiety. It is rich in probiotics and antioxidants which not only help in regulating your gut health but are also good for your mental health. Consuming yogurt has been proven beneficial for reducing the free radicals and toxins present in your body and brain, which prevents the damage of nerve tissue and the development of neurodegenerative diseases.

A study conducted in 2011 found out that people who consumed at least 125 grams of yogurt daily had a significantly better emotional response and were able to rationalize their surroundings better, both of which are associated with fighting the symptoms of anxiety and depression.
