Every year, we celebrate World Water Day on 22 March to raise awareness about saving water. Water is an integral part of not only the earth but also our body. Major parts of our body are made from water that helps with the effective transport of nutrients. According to some studies, our lungs are composed of 83% water and both heart & brain are 73% water. Our bones consist of 31 % water, skin consists of 64% water, and kidneys and muscles are 79% water. International Water Day helps raise awareness among people who are living without water. It is also popularly known as Jal Divas. The core focus of Water Day is to achieve sustainable development of sanitation and water by 2030.

It is a common hearing that water is essential for you and your health. Here are some benefits of drinking water

1. Regulates Temperature in the Body

Mostly in summer, your body loses a significant amount of water via sweat, leading to an imbalance in body temperature. To maintain optimal body temperature, you need to stay hydrated. Sweat does keep your body cool but body temperature rises because of multiple other reasons. If you don’t replenish your body with water, you will lose plasma and electrolytes, resulting in certain illnesses. 

2. Maximise Athletic Performance

During physical activity athletes may lose water up to 6-10% or their body weight. If you are an athlete, this affects your strength, endurance, and power. You may face some serious medical issues including seizures, hyperthermia, lower blood pressure level, and others. So, drink more water sip by sip while doing intense workout but in intervals. 

3. Prevents Constipation

You must have read suggestions to eat fibre-rich foods in order to avoid constipation but what if we told you that is not the only way? It is also important to drink sufficient water per day. If you don’t do so, the fibre content consumed will not get absorbed properly. For better results, health experts suggest drinking water in the morning. It would be better if you drink lukewarm water but avoid drinking hot water.

Experts confirm that drinking water during or before your meal helps your body to break down your meals easily. But avoid drinking water at night and after meals to avoid indigestion issues and hindrance in sleeping. In addition to digestion, you can also make use of drinking water to lose weight.

If you want to lose weight, use a drink water reminder on your phone. Ensure the intake of at least 2 litres of water in a day. Drink water when you feel hungry in order to identify your true appetite and avoid cravings. Drinking enough water also helps you stay away from urinary tract infection, avoids kidney stones, and helps in boosting energy.

6. Improves Mood

Not only does drinking water help lose weight, it also supports cognitive function and helps your brain by boosting alertness, focus, and short term memory. Intake of enough water in the body also helps you improve confusion, anxiety, fatigue, and mood.
